Pneumothorax Chest X-ray

I found a good x-ray of the chest with pneumothorax so I thought I just share it with you guys…

3 things to look for to confirm the presence of a tension pneumothorax.

  1. The visceral-pleura white line. (as marked by the white dots)
  2. Loss of pulmonary markings over the left lung.
  3. The mediastinum is shifted to the right and the diaphragm over the left side is pushed downwards.

  1. hmm.. i thot a pnuemothorax supposed to have like a black line around the lungs? is that the plural white line? (which i can;t seem to see) how’d u get an x-ray up here anyway? cool..

  2. Hi zee. The black line is not the pleural white line. It’s the one marked with 6 white dots. I’m sorry if it looks a wee-bit small to be noticed.

And how do I get the x-ray up here? Erm… I uploaded it?

  3. hi….

  5. Nice one Eric! Good quality xray….def not a ‘total waste of time’…Thanks

  6. An additional point to note is the pleural herniation. You can see the pleural lining almost crossing over the midline at post ribs 6th-10th. the Lt hemidiaphragm is also significantly flattened n depressed
