Good Doctors – Dr. Ng Kwee Boon (Obstetrician and Gynaecologist)

Dr. NgDr. Ng, a very soft spoken and humble man. He takes time to explain the details and loves to chat. He believes that the best way to treat if through knowing the patient as a person rather than treating the disease itself. He never rushes through a consult. You’ll notice funny little antiques between him and his trusty nurse who urges him to see at a faster rate as there are so many other patients waiting in line to see him. Speaks in a variety of dialects including Hokkien and Cantonese, although he communicates best in English.

Specializes in scopes, which includes laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgeries, which most patients prefer these days as these surgeries leave smaller scars and have a faster healing time. If you’re wondering what is laparoscopy, click HERE.

He runs a clinic in Tung Shin Hospital. You can get more HERE.

Rumor has it that he will be retiring soon. But when, no one knows. However, if you’re looking for a good O&G specialist around Klang Valley area, you may want to consider seeing him.

Dr. Ngau Yen Yew (Consultant In Internal Medicine)

I’ve worked alongside Dr. Ngau for a good one year or so. He was my superior and I only have one sentence to describe him.

He IS a good man.

Very passionate. Very responsible. He was a good a teacher and a good mentor too. Now, this is one doctor that no matter how much money you have in your Swiss bank accounts, you can’t pay to see him because he’s in the public hospital. Which means, he’s accessible to everyone and if you are treated by him, be assured that you are in good hands. Everyone’s been telling me that there’s no longer good doctors in the public hospitals. I can tell you that you are definitely wrong. You just have to find out who’s good.

He is currently based in Kuala Lumpur General Hospital (GHKL), and trust me, it won’t be easy to meet up with him. The only way to see him, if you do require his advice on certain illness, is that you do need a letter from a doctor from the government side, or at least a letter addressed to him personally. Then, get an appointment date from the Physician’s Clinic (PC) in GHKL. If you’re thinking of seeing him for flu and cough, then please, see others. You would be wasting your own time as well as his.

He is good at managing chronic illnesses such as diabetes melitus, hypertension and hyperlipidaemias but any good doctors should be able to manage those too. Seek him out if you have some form rare disorder, some disease that is not of your everyday kind of sickness, then you would be able to see the true value in him.

I’ve written a short passage about him HERE too.

Good Doctors – Dr. Chuah Bee Poh (Obstetrician and Gynaecologist)

It’s been a while since I last spoke to Dr. Chuah, but I still remember him as a very caring and passionate doctor. Dubbed as the Clinic King (by me), since he was always consulting patients in the O&G clinic of Kuala Lumpur General Hospital (GHKL) most of the time. A very approachable and intellectual person too. I used to sit in the same clinic room as him when I was doing my intern-ship. We (interns) were given a choice to pick a room as long as we were attached to a senior person, and I would always choose the room he sits in for my clinic attachments.

I did ask him once, of why did he choose O&G for his specialization. The answer he gave me was, “I took my time and went through the other postings, and I didn’t like it.”. Based  on that, we know that he’s an all-rounder. And when it comes to advice, I’m sure that he would be able to give you a proper and clean explanation in view of his past experiences. Therefore, if you’re planning to have a child, or you’re pregnant, you may want to seek him out. He’s very good in doing ultrasound scans, be it baby scans or gynaecological scans.

He speaks English, Cantonese, Mandarin and a few other dialects. If you want to know more about him, you can head on HERE for more information.

Good Doctors – Dr. Alvince Dev (Obstetrician and Gynaecologist)

If you speak English, and you’re looking for a good doctor specialized in obstetrics and gynaecology, you may want to see him. Let me get straight to the point at what he’s good at. Surgical skills, communication skills and knowledge.

I’ve been into the operation theatre with him on many occasions, I dare say that he’s one of the skilled surgeons I’ve seen so far. To be honest, I hated surgery but you’ll be amazed at the way he cuts, removes (tumours, uterus, cysts, etc.) and sutures. All nicely done and clean with minimal bleeding. He once told me, “A female’s skin is the most important organ (really?) as compared to the rest, you have to make sure that you suture it to produce minimal scaring.” He’s also good at laparoscopic surgeries too. If you’re wondering what is laparoscopy, click HERE.

How about Obstetrics? Definitely a good choice to see him too. He encourages a normal birth if possible, but if problem arises, and LSCS is inevitable, you know that you’re in good hands.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, all these information are based on my own experience. If you’re planning for a gynaecological surgery or a delivery, you may want to make an appointment and meet him first, before deciding on the next step. After all, the trust between the patient and the treating doctor, is the most important factor of all.

He’s located here: Normah Medical Specialist Centre

He was featured HERE in The Star newspaper.
